Andy is the founder and President of A. Emmink Associates Ltd. After working in a variety of positions within the Ontario Worker's Compensation Board, Andy established his own consulting practice in 1988. His years as a claims adjudicator, investigator, decision review specialist and a series of management positions in the WSIB's Appeals Branch, have given him a broad insight into the legislative and policy framework driving today's workers' compensation system.
In addition to his workers' compensation experience, Andy is a skilled mediator. Since 1990, he has mediated more than 500 litigated claims, ranging from personal injury, to real estate and medical malpractice. Andy is certified by the ADR Institute of Canada as a Chartered Mediator, and is a Roster Mediator, Toronto Roster in the Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program.
Undine is our Administrative Assistant, and joined the firm in 2002. With an extensive background in health and safety / management consulting, Undine is at the forefront in our day-to-day dealings with clients and staff of the WSIB. Over the past two years, she has established an excellent rapport with claims adjudicators and is often successful in resolving disputes before they become appeals.
Kelly also came from a background with the Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. After several years as a claims adjudicator, she also spent time in more senior adjudicative roles as a decision review specialist. After leaving the WSIB, Kelly carried out consulting work for a number of industrial clients. Her keen analysis of complex claims issues allows us to provide our clients with accurate and frank assessments of individual cases, and guides our recommendations for further pursuit of issues in dispute. Kelly is assuming an increasing involvement in the preparation and presentation of appeals, both at the Appeals Resolution Officer level, and at the Workplace Safety and Appeals Tribunal.
Peter is our newest staff member, having joined us in early 2005. Peter is a graduate of Laval University's law program, class of 2000. He was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 2004 and completed his articles at a well-established civil and general litigation firm in Montreal. As part of his articling training, Peter co-ordinated the claims process for the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund on behalf of Mohawk ironworkers from the reservations in the Montreal area who were injured while lending their legendary skills in the relief effort. Before studying law, Peter was a practising chemical engineer and is a registered professional engineer in Quebec. Peter is also fluently bilingual in French and English.
Since joining the firm, Peter has quickly established an aptitude for analysing complex cases and developing effective strategies for resolving claims-related disputes at the claims adjudicator level. This has the effect of resolving issues more expeditiously - an obvious benefit to our clients.
